With Christmas being the most popular holiday in the United States of America, people are naturally looking for more and more ways to express their festive spirit and enjoy the holiday with friends and families. One of the more popular ways to do this lately is with Christmas outdoor decorations. But just like any other decorations, you should be considering a couple of key rules and guidelines. Here are my guidelines to Christmas outdoor decorations.
One of the most important of my tips for Christmas outdoor decorations is size. First of all, bigger is not always better. Yes, some displays and Christmas outdoor decorations are quite vast in scale, covering a lot of grounds with lots of lights. However, these are not always the best Christmas outdoor decorations. Sometimes big means gaudy, sometimes big means obtrusive and sometimes big means obnoxious. Make sure that you have the right balance for your Christmas outdoor decorations.
And it is not just the overall size of your Christmas outdoor decorations that is important, but also the relative size of your Christmas outdoor decorations. What does this mean? Well, it is awful to see your two foot tall Santa Claus next to a six foot tall deer across from your mammoth Frosty the Snowman. Make sure that your Christmas outdoor decorations aren't necessarily the same size, but that the sizes make sense with what the specific decorations are.
For that matter, the best Christmas outdoor decorations are created with a unified creative vision. What does this mean? Well, you wouldn't put a manger display next to Rudolph. That does not mean you need to limit yourself to only secular or religious Christmas outdoor decorations, but that you should separate them to create a cohesive look.
As you approach your Christmas outdoor decorations this year, consider these guidelines. Create a unified display that works on a thematic level, with all of the decorations to scale without overwhelming the neighborhood. I always think it is better to have a classy Christmas display than trying to be impressive and over do it. Yes, this might mean not using all of your Christmas outdoor decorations every year, but that is ok. A good display is just as much about what you do not put up as what you do put up. A little bit of restraint can go along way to putting up some truly classy and impressive Christmans outdoor decorations.
